Lovers of literature in Worcestershire are in for a treat as award winning author of Glass, Alex Christofi comes to visit. This event will be held on Saturday 26th November 2016 from 7pm to 8.30pm. The entry fee to this event will be five pounds only.
Who is Alex Christofi?
Alex Christofi is a young writer who was born in Dorset in 1987. He studied English at Oxford University. Before he burst into the limelight with his debut novel, Alex Christofi had worked on other writing projects such as theatre projects with the Old Vic e.g. 24 Hour Plays, Arden Project, Time Warner IGNITE and Evolution Project. He also loves to write poetry and some of his poetry has been featured in Oxford poetry 07, Oxford Poetry 08, Magma and Blithe Spirit etc. ‘The Impossibility of Crows’, a novella he wrote, was on the longlist for the 2011 Paris Literary Prize.
Alex Christofi works as an editor and also writes articles for the prospect blog. He currently has one novel to his name, Glass, which was published in 2015 by Serpent’s Tail. This novel won the Betty Trask Prize and was also longlisted for the Desmond Elliot Prize. He has received notable mentions from Shortlist, Kate Saunders and The Daily Mail.
Glass
Alex Christofi’s first novel, Glass, tells the humorous story of a naïve former milkman who has aspirations of becoming a window cleaner. The lead character, Gunter, has been fascinated by glass ever since he paid a visit to a glassblower’s workshop at a young age. Fate comes calling when an incident on the Salisbury Cathedral spire makes him a local celebrity. He receives an attractive job offer in London which he accepts.
The rest of the story takes the reader through Gunter’s adventures in London with the various characters he meets such as the psychic Lieve Toureau and his reclusive landlord. Through all his experiences, Gunter tries to live by his mother’s advice as he tries to find out how to be a good person. You can solve the mystery of whether Gunter’s experiences in London will get the better of him or whether or he’ll succeed in his quest to be good by getting a copy of the book that is available on Amazon.
